Test design and test plans

Testing methods, experimental designs and significance testing used in DRIVE C2X will be chosen among several possibilities. The following methods will be considered in the requirements phase in SP2 and methods package of given methods will be compiled:

  • In-vehicle instrumentation obtrusive (recording process visible)
  • In-vehicle instrumentation unobtrusive (no visible instrumentation or recording)
  • Driving-logs
  • Observation (in-vehicle)
  • Interviews / surveys

The experimental design can be a before-after with or without a control group (both will be used) and the significance testing will be made depending on the analysis question by t-tests (two-tailed), multivariate tests and using descriptive data.

DRIVE C2X field testing will be conducted in two steps:

  • the so-called System Test Site (STS) stands for the validation in a single test site,
  • adaptation, piloting and functional tests are then carried out on all the DRIVE C2X test sites. The latter ones are executed on the so-called Functional Test Sites (FTS).

During the field tests we will use two complementary approaches for data collection. On the one hand controlled tests based on pre-defined test scenarios will provide a large amount of data for specific triggered functions. Furthermore, the uncontrolled tests which use undefined test drives based on a naturalistic driving approach will serve as source for a large amount of data on driver behaviour. These include immediate reactions to cooperative driving systems and also long-term impacts when using these systems continuously.
